Doug is one of Madison’s premier professional musicians. He played for many years as the original guitarist for the gypsy jazz group, Harmonious Wail, was the musical director for APT in Spring Green in the 90’s, accompanied vocalist Michelle DuVall for 10 years (until she moved to Vietnam), is a sideman in many local groups, and is first call with Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Madison Symphony Orchestra, and Madison Opera for guitar parts. Although he focuses on guitar in our duo, he is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and performs on banjo, mandolin, violin, and piano (he has recorded a piano jazz CD).
Doug and I performed twice a month a Delaney’s Restaurant for almost 5 years. Now we perform there occasionally and also at weddings, corporate events, parties, retirement homes, and other social functions.
We play jazz standards from the 30’s through the 70’s. A few originals are also mixed in. It might be awhile before we sit down and make a polished recording; until then, here are some live recordings. This first one is Cole Porter’s, “Night and Day,” recorded at Delaney’s on a typically lively Friday night.
Next is a recording of “Mary’s Song”from a February 2014 concert at Capitol Lake’s Grand Hall. I wrote this song for my wife as an anniversary gift. Now she loves me even more. Is that even possible?
